Wilma Lucille Harrison, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Via Christi Village. She was 98 years of age.
Mrs. Harrison was born December 19, 1913 at Elmer, Oklahoma, the daughter of T.W. Bradley and Alta Thrash Bradley. She was a 1933 graduate of Olustee, Oklahoma High School. She was married to James A. Harrison on July 16, 1934 in Olustee with the couple making their first home in Mangum.
She went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1940, in Olustee. The couple moved to Mangum in 1941where Wilma became the evening chief operator. She was promoted to assistant Chief Operator and then to Chief Operator while in Mangum. The couple moved to Altus in 1958, to Lawton in 1963 and to Chickasha in 1972, where she served as Chief Operator in all three cities. She retired from Southwestern Bell in 1978 with 38 years of distinguished service. Wilma moved to Ponca City in 1993.
Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ponca City. Her enjoyments included travel, having traveled to all of Europe and North Africa, as well as China, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong. She also enjoyed crafts that included ceramics and pillow case dolls.
She is survived by her daughterinlaw, Sandra Harrison of Ponca City four grandchildren, Carrie Cantrell, and husband Bill, of Ponca City, Kim Craun, and husband Rick, Weatherford, Texas, Jimmy Williamson, and wife Kerri, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Lt. Col Larry Harrison II who resides in Russia 3 step grandchildren, Steve Newport and wife, Marty, Jennifer Turner and husband, Cameron, and Ryan Newport 9 great grandchildren, Casey Repine, Casie Walker, Erin Hatter, Cara Cantrell, Ben Harrison, Danielle Harrison, John Harrison, Kaithlyn Williamson and Hannah Williamson 6 great great grandchildren, Hunter Carter, Trinity Carter, Kaleb Walker, Brenna Walker, Peyton Repine and Reagan Repine and 5 step great great grandchildren, Kennedy Turner, Karson Turner, Kate Turner, MLissa Newport and Cooper Newport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1973 her son, Larry Harrison, on June 18, 2012 two sisters, Ila King and Doris McKenzie three brothers, Grover Bradley, T.H. Bud Bradley and Willard Bradley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Andy Taylor presiding. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery north of Chickasha. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Ray Cripps, Fred Randel, Gale Prather, Don Long, Ed Sauzek and Marvin Yost. Honorary casket bearers will be H.T. Duff and Mike Caldwell.
