William H. Secrest, Ponca City resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 78.
William was born the son of Fred Secrest and Alice Henrietta Gray Secrest on August 9, 1931 in Gunnison, Colorado. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 20 on June 9, 1951 and served in England, France, Belgium, Japan and the South Pacific until his honorable discharge on October 1, 1972. William moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1973. He worked at Conoco in the mailroom from 1973 until he retired in 1991.
William enjoyed gardening and making teddy bears for the Childrens Hospital. He loved pet birds and was a supporter of the Oasis Sanctuary. William also volunteered at the Ponca City Library for several years to help adults learn to read.
He is survived by his sister, Betty L. Flower of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and nieces, Leeann Flower of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Pamela Vanderheiden of the State of Washington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alice Secrest and brother, Homer Charles Secrest.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent in Williams honor to the National AIDS Council.
