Wayne Fleharty

On October 1, 2014, Wayne Ivan Fleharty, 81, went to be with the Lord, after a courageous
battle with cancer. He was at his home in Kaw City, Oklahoma.

Wayne was born February 25, 1933 in Old Kaw City, Oklahoma to John Screech and Mary Netty Bowker Fleharty. He grew up in Old Kaw City, and graduated from Kaw City High School. He served our country in the United States Air Force. He owned his own gas station for a short period in Kaw City. He enjoyed fixing cars and tinkering with different projects.

Wayne married Leota Rae Seward in 1957. They moved from Kaw City to California in 1961. There, they raised their two daughters Cheryl Ann Bugs and Vickie Jean Scooter. Along with all kinds of critters, birds, dogs, rabbits, fish, quail, and a rooster Beepers that would wake us all up at 5 in the morning. In the summers Wayne would take his family on trips to see relatives. He would take Route 66, in the early years, starting from Los Angeles to Oklahoma City, then on North to Kaw City. He loved to cook, when the church would have pot luck dinner, he would make a killer meatloaf, which earned him the name of King of Meatloaf. He was a wonderful story teller, or should we say whopper teller. He would start out the story with Well, when I was a little girl or tell about his bald headed girlfriend. He and Leota were married for 19 years before Leota lost her battle with Lupus. Wayne returned to his hometown of Kaw City in approximately 1982.

Between 1977 to present, Wayne enjoyed traveling to Mexico. He had fun learning the Mexican culture. And he really enjoyed trying out the Mexican cuisine one of his favorites was chicharones. And of course he loved listening to Mariachi music, especially the gritos AY AY AY AY He became very interested in a beautiful green eyed Senorita Eva Beatriz Cortez. In 1985 Wayne married Eva in her home town, where they met, Zaptolan Del Rey, Jalisco. They were married for 28 years. Wayne and Eva were snow birds. They loved traveling back to Mexico for the winter.

Wayne was a member of Ponca City Masonic Temple. He was raised to Master Mason in October of 1964. He also received his 50 Year Award from the Masons. He was a member of the American Legion and Kaw City Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, camping, music, western movies, BBQs and HOT DOGS His favorite actor was John Wayne, his favorite singer was Johnny Cash, and his favorite writer was Louis LAmour.

Because Wayne knew the importance of having Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he made sure that God was woven in the fabric of his family. Church was always a part of the family life.

Wayne is survived by his spouse Eva Beatriz Fleharty, of the home his daughters Vickie Nix and her partner Walton McBride of Kaw City, Cheryl Craig and her husband Rick Craig of Ponca City his sister Shirley Weir and her husband Ray Weir of Carter Lake, Nebraska his grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Kenia Vazquez of Houston, Texas, Leanna Brandon Miller of Ponca City, Crystal James Noll of Hooker, Oklahoma, Joseph Vazquez of Oklahoma, Ryan Autumn Lawson of Oklahoma City, Steven and Carlie Sixkiller of Ponca City, Cody Ward of Arizona, Tish Thomas of Edmond, Oklahoma his greatgrandchildren, Kurtis, Mercedes, Michael Jr., Gage, Hannah, Melinda, Jesus Chuy, Fatima, Sophia, Nicole, Averie, Rayven, Allison, Nash his nephew who was as close as a son, Rick Fleharty of Ponca City his brother and sister inlaws of Chicago, Illinois, Jose and Hilda Cortez, Juan Cortez, Jesus and Betty Cortez, and Jorge Cortez of Jalisco, Mexico including a multitude of niecesgreat nieces and nephewsgreat nephews and other relatives.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents John Screech Mary Netty Bowker Fleharty his
siblings Hazel Heck, Florence Williams, Lois Long, Cecil Fleharty, Gene Fleharty, and Fred Fleharty his grandson Richard S. Fleharty. The celebration of Waynes life will be held 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Kaw City Methodist Church, Kaw City. Pastor Tom Short of the Kaw City Oak Grove Baptist Church will be officiating. The Burial will follow in the Kaw City Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
