Virgle Odell Taylor,90, went to his heavenly home surrounded by family, on November 6, 2022. Virgle was born to Homer Sydney Taylor and Bettie Kathrine (Grinder)Taylor on August 19,1932, in Huntsville, Arkansas. He attended school in both Comanche and Ponca City, Oklahoma. He Began his career with the Ponca City Fire Department in 1951. Later in 1952 he took a leave of absence and joined the Army where he served from 1952 to 1954. He was station at Fort Bliss, Texas and Carswell Air Force base in Fort Worth, Texas. He was released to eight years of service in the Army Reserve after attaining the rank of E4 Corporal while on Active Duty. He returned to his position as a fireman with the City of Ponca City and served in numerous positions over his 33-year career, including, 1st Class Fireman, Pipe man, Driver, Captain, his favorite position Fire Marshall and his final position as Assistant Chief.
Virgle married Neva Jean Bozworth on May 7, 1955, in Ponca City. They had one daughter Lorene Jeannette Torralba. Neva passed away October 23, 1989. Later he met a wonderful, loving, lady Eva King Vanderpool and the two were married on July 1, 1995, and they had a wonderful life right up until his passing. Virgle loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with his friends and his late brother. Another of his favorite things to do was travel with his wife. The two had many adventures and were quite a pair. Anyone who spent any time with Virgle knew he was a true talker. He could tell some stories and keep you busy for hours. His bright spirit will truly be missed.
Proceeding Virgle in death are his parents, his brothers Raymond, Robert, and Bill, his first wife Neva, a son-in-law Ellis Torralba, and granddaughter Christy Greathouse.
Virgle is survived by his wife Eva Taylor, of the home, and their dog Socks. Also left to cherish his memory are his daughter Lorene of Fletcher, OK, his granddaughter Krystal Schell and husband Nicholas and their children Emilee, Nichole, and Braylen Shell of Irving, Texas, Grandson David Stamper of Sayre, Oklahoma, his brother Gene Taylor and wife Martha of Emporia, KS, and his sister Norma Osborn of Ponca City, Oklahoma, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel, in Ponca City. Services will be held Friday, November 11, 2022, at 11 a.m. also at Grace Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
