Virginia Christina Brown, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Creekside Village, Ponca City. She was 92 years of age.
Virginia was born January 16, 1923, the daughter of Raymond and Francis Sheridan. She attended Ponca City Schools, graduating from Ponca City High School. After graduation she attended Ponca City Hospital Nursing School. It was there that she met Jack Brown, whom she was married to for 48 years until his death in August of 1990. From this union, 2 daughters were born.
In her early years Virginia followed her husband during the war years. After World War II they settled in Ponca City where she was a stay-at-home mother raising her girls. She was very active in the PTA, Ponca City Mother's Club, Red Cross and Presbyterian Women's Association. She held a variety of offices in all. Once her children were older she worked as an English assistant at East Junior High before working for Ponca Medical Center for 20 years. After retiring Virginia spent time traveling with her husband and friends. She also spent years enjoying her five grandchildren and their activities. She loved playing bridge, reading, being with family and enjoying and loving her dogs.
Anyone that met Virginia would enjoy her kind spirit, cheerfulness, and positive outlook. She was a very independent woman who spoke kindly of everyone.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Atteberry and husband Larry, of Ponca City, and Patti Lundeen and husband Bill, of Bartlesville; five devoted grandchildren, Ashley Webb, Ryan Atteberry, Rex Lundeen, Ben Lundeen and Ellen Guzman; 7 great grandchildren; other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Helen Stowell and Peggy Densford.
