On Saturday, December 22. 2017 we lost our mother, grandmother, aunt and sister at 11:34 a.m. Virginia Louise "Ginger" Beck was born to Rock and Ila Haskins on August 11, 1937 at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital. Ginger attended Arkansas City High School and was active as a majorette in the Arkansas City High School band. She graduated in 1955 and married Harold Leon Shurtz.
They had three children Dena Kaye, Brenda Lynn and Kenneth Leon Shurtz. The family relocated to Wellington, Kansas where Ginger completed cosmetology school and opened her own beauty shop. In 1973, after a divorce, Virginia relocated to Arkansas City where she worked for Governor Bob Docking as his personal secretary at Union State Bank until her retirement. In 1975, Virginia remarried Dewey Junior Beck and gained two more wonderful step-daughters, Cathy Ladoux and Carol Joe Jones. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, A step brother Bill Strange, and three grandchildren Isaac and David Ladoux and Jacob Jones. Virginia is survived by her five children Cathy Ladoux, Carol Jones, Dena Berg, Brenda Shurtz-Moore and Kenneth Shurtz, two sisters Linda Nichols and Mary Strange, one brother Jim Haskins, seven grandchildren Zachary, Adam, and Chad Moore, Charity, Timmy, Faith, Hope, and Johnny Berg and Gina Probst. Ginger was an active member and volunteer of the Northeast Baptist Church and Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, Inc. A few of her hobbies included playing the piano and organ, singing in the church choir, babysitting for the church members during services, walking her beloved dogs, and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. While those of us that she left behind here on Earth will forever love and miss her; God and all of those in Heaven have gained a beautiful angel; whose children and all who knew her will rise up and call her blessed.
A funeral service will be held at Northeast Baptist Church of Ponca City on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction Grace Memorial Chapel. Pastor Joe Muniz will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery of Arkansas City, Kansas.
