Virgil Wendell McClung, longtime resident of the Ponca City area, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Shawn Manor Nursing Center. He was 92 years of age.

Virgil was born March 24, 1918 at Uncas, Oklahoma, the son of Frank McClung and Susie Finley McClung. His early education was received at the Pleasant Ridge School District 97 in the Uncas area. He was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Lee Hill Dillow on October 15, 1937 in Miami, Oklahoma. Virgil started working in construction and started as a pipefitter with the Pipefitters Local 767 in Ponca City in 1950. He retired in 1980 and bought a farm along the Arkansas River near Blackburn, Oklahoma where he and Dorothy lived until her death in 1999. He moved to Ponca City and has lived with his son and wife for the past 11 years. His enjoyments included the outdoors where he loved farming, gardening, fishing and visiting with others.

Virgil is survived by three children, Allan McClung and wife, Linda, of Ponca, Larry Dillow and wife, Jane, The Colony, Texas, and Linda Humphrey and husband, Harold, of Blackburn, Oklahoma 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild numerous other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Dorothy one granddaughter, Kim Coussins 3 brothers, Ramond, Roy and Glen and 2 sisters, Florence Hendrickson and Emma Ackert.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Grace Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Hines presiding. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Kip McClung, Shawn McClung, Joe Breedlove, Deniss Humphrey, Wesley Breedlove and Trevor Breedlove.
