Verna Frances Rhoades, longtime resident of Marland, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010 at her home. She was 90 years old.
Frances was born June 19, 1919 in Agra, Oklahoma to Charles H. Hindes and Minnie M. Trammel Hindes. She was raised in Ripley, Oklahoma. Frances married Winfrey Windy Daniel Rhoades on February 26, 1938 in Monte Vista, Colorado and to this union, four children were born.
Frances was a cook for the Marland School System from 1954 to 1990. Frances had a reputation for her cooking and was known for her cinnamon rolls and noodles. She was very active in the community of Marland and always volunteered to make chicken and noodles, cobblers and pies for various functions in the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marland.
Frances loved gardening and tending to her flowerbeds and rosebushes and was especially proud of her tomatoes.
She is survived by her children, Jim Rhoades and wife, Karen of Marland, Oklahoma, Peggy Mauk and husband, Don of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Verna Vernon of Goddard, Kansas 10 grandchildren, Donnie Mauk, David Mauk, Timmy Mauk, Todd Vernon, Jason Vernon, Michelle Davis, Dusty Rhoades, Michael Rhoades, Wendy Hawk and Andrea Siler 19 great grandchildren 7 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents husband, Winfrey Daniel Rhoades Sr., February 20, 1985 son, Winfrey Daniel Jr. grandsons, Rick D. Vernon and Terry Dale Mauk seven brothers one sister and soninlaw, Dwaine Vernon.
Casket bearers for the service will be grandsons, Donnie Mauk, David Mauk, Todd Vernon, Jason Vernon, Michael Rhoades and Dusty Rhoades.
Honorary bearers will be grandson, Timmy Mauk and great grandsons, Danny Vernon, Trenton Vernon, Brandon Mauk, David Cole Mauk, Ryan Mauk, Ricky Vernon Jr., Aaron Stewart, T.J. Siler and Shane Kimbrell.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Marland with Pastor Chris Short officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. The family will be at 106 West 6th in Marland.
