Thomas Tom J. Short, went home to be with his Lord and Savior June 3, 2009. Tom was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on April 6, 1922 to Robert and Myrtle Short. At twelve years old his family moved to Seminole. While in school he lettered in track and basketball and earned his Eagle Scout badge. After graduating Pleasant View High School in 1940 he attended Oklahoma AM now Oklahoma State University. In 1944 Tom enlisted in the armed services and spent two and one half years in the military during World War II. He received a medical discharge. While in the service he attended the University of Tennessee where he pursued cadet training and also sang in school glee club. It was while he was in Tennessee he met Roberta Biggs and they were married April 7, 1946 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Later he was a roustabout for Amerada Oil and was transferred to Ponca City. When the Ponca City office closed he then went to work at the United States Post Office. While employed with the Post Office he became a certified electrical contractor. Even after he retired from the Post Office, he continued his electrical work for many years. Tom and Bobbie joined First Baptist Church of Ponca City in 1987. As an active member of First Baptist he was an ordained Deacon, sang in the choir, and sang solos, participated in the Easter Cantata, singing with the Silver tones, and the Okay senior choir. Tom enjoyed the mission trips to Arizona and Falls Creek to help others promote the Gospel. Tom also volunteered to help with the wiring of the new sanctuaries for Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kaw City, and Longwood Baptist of Ponca City. He enjoyed singing and was asked to sing in churches in Tennessee, Oak Grove Baptist, and other churches. Tom enjoyed building; he built an old Ford pickup from assorted parts and used it for many years. He also built their home on Cedar and his shop behind their house. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling. Tom and Roberta Bobbie had celebrated 65 years of marriage. From this union they had three children; Gwen Warren wife of Fuzzy Warren, Tom Short and his wife Cindy, and Jeannie Sells of Tulsa. Survivors include grandchildren; Christina Warren, T.J. and April Short of Oklahoma City, Tamitha Coleman, Tim Short of Edmond, Chuck and Crystal Ramsey, Nikki Sells of Tulsa, Steven Warren, great-grandchildren; Keanna Short, Austin Short, Dalton Moore, Alexis Ramsey, Lane Ramsey and Paige Coleman. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Myrtle Short, sister; Lenora Thorsen and brother, Bob Short.
