Toby Blackstar

April 18, 1970 — August 9, 2016

Toby A. Blackstar, longtime Ponca City resident left this world on Tuesday August 9, 2016 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was 46 years old.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the First Baptist Church Worship Center on Thursday August 11th at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Sterling Dallas White officiating. A prayer service will be held in Lawton, Oklahoma on Thursday evening August 11th at the Comanche Nation Tribal Complex Watchetaker Hall at 7 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday August 12th at 10 AM also at Watchetaker Hall at the Comanche Nation Complex. His commitment to Earth will take place at the Saddle Mountain Kiowa Indian Cemetery at Saddle Mountain, Oklahoma on Friday August 12th.
Toby was born on April 18th, 1970 in Oklahoma City to Oliver Sr. and Della Blackstar. The family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1974. Toby attended the old Pleasantview Head Start program, Liberty Elementary, West Jr High, and was a 1989 graduate of Ponca City High School. Toby received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Funeral Home Services from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Toby worked at Braum's and at Wal-Mart as a cashier before he felt the call to serve others by becoming a funeral director and embalmer. He worked at Grace Memorial Chapel, Trout Funeral Home, and the Comanche Nation Funeral Home in Lawton, Oklahoma. When not serving families during their time of need as a funeral director Toby served numerous area churches as an ordained minister and pastor. Toby was involved with the Greater First Deliverance Temple, Harmony Baptist Church, Ponca Indian Full Gospel Church, Ponca Indian Baptist Church, Otoe-Missouria Baptist Church, Newlife Pentecostal Church, Connor Chapel A.M.E, Martin Temple C.M.E., Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ, to name a few. Toby had an amazing joy about him that very few could understand. He could always make people smile when they didn't feel like it with his silliness and his distinctive laugh.
Toby's interests included serving with the Attucks Association, Hospice of Ponca City, Ponca Playhouse, Carmen fan club, BeBE and CeCe Winans fan club, Whitney Houston fan club, Kirk Franklin fan club, and in earlier years the Oo-kee-hee Native American Club. He loved his Otoe-Missouria, Ponca, Kiowa, Comanche, Apache, and Cheyenne people.
Toby leaves behind his parents, Oliver Sr and Della Blackstar of Ponca City, brothers Sam Blackstar of Owasso, Ok., Oliver Jr of Ponca City, Richard Blackstar of Arizona, and Daniel Cox of Oklahoma. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, nieces and nephews
