Thurman Buffalohead, longtime resident of the Ponca City area went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 30, 2011 at his home. He was 89 years of age.
Mr. Buffalohead was born April 8, 1922 at Ponca City, the son of Pete Buffalohead and Nettie Littledance Buffalohead. His early education was received in the Ponca City Public Schools. He served his country as an Army Medic during World War II, serving in Egypt and Morocco. He was married to Thelma Roy on December 10, 1945 in Ponca City. He was married to Mary Booth on January 5, 2010.
His early employment was with Rocketdyne Aviation in California in 1956, was then a common laborer in Ponca City and served as church minister for 45 years with the Ponca Indian Full Gospel Church. He always read his Bible daily and encouraged his congregation weekly to do the same. He loved to praise the Lord by the use of his drums.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home one daughter, Linda Buffalohead Rhea of Ponca City and one stepson, Bob Wissher 5 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren 4 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Stacy Buffalohead.
Nightly prayer services will be held at the Ponca Indian Full Gospel Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Ponca Indian Full Gospel Church with Rev. Harvey Fix presiding. Burial will follow in the Ponca Indian Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Pete Buffalohead, Jason Buffalohead, James Rhea, Stacy Buffalohead Jr., Eleazar Chavez, Harley Buffalohead. Honorary casket bearers will be Jerrod Buffalohead, Tom Morgan, Victor Buffalohead, and Richard Columbus.
