Thelma Stewart, 92, beloved Mother, grandmother, was called to her eternal resting place on March 6, 2025. She entered this world on May 29, 1932, in Ponca City, OK, born to Kenneth W. and Beulah L. Shaw Hoogendoorn.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in the Albright United Methodist church, with Pastor Andy Lambel and Mr. Tom Combs-Francis officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Grace Memorial Chapel with the family in attendance to receive friends and relatives from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The family has asked memorial donations to be made to Albright United Methodist Church if you wish.
Thelma attended the Ponca City School system, and she graduated from PO HI in 1950. Following her graduation, she operated the elevator in the Community Building. Thelma furthered her education by attending the Ponca City Beauty College of cosmetology, following her graduation she opened her own beauty shop, known as Thelma's Beauty Salon, for over 40 years. Thelma did hair for the Funeral homes in Ponca City and later became the evening receptionist for Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Thelma met the love of her life, and on Thanksgiving Day, 1954, she married Joe G. Stewart, and they made their home in Ponca City, OK. and to this union there were four children, Trudy, Marshall, Kenneth Guy and Tonya. Thelma decided she wanted to continue her education once again and she entered Nursing School graduating in 1990 as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she was the oldest student to ever graduate, and she joined the St Joesph Regional Hospital Nursing staff for several years. Thelma enjoyed Pilot Club International, NAMI, attending Albright United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, traveling on Mission Trips, and volunteering as the Church Camp Nurse. During her spare time Thelma enjoyed spending time with family, spoiling her grandchildren, traveling, collecting light houses, bird watching and reading her bible.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are children, Trudy Murphy of Corpus Christi, TX, Marshall Stewart, Kenneth Guy Stewart and wife Marsha, and Tonya Dugan and husband Jim all of Ponca City, OK. Grandchildren, Tammy, Tara, Tandy, Sterling, Jennifer, Will, Marshall James Robert (Jim Bob), Greg, Chris, Kyle, Dexter, Ashley, Allison, Alyssa, Brooke, Cody, Trey, and Christian, also survive her 48 Great Grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, LJ Hoogendoorn, Kenneth W. Jr Hoogendoorn and one great grandson, Samuel Anson.
