Sterling Louie Louis Nabours Jr., entered into rest on Saturday, March, 13, 2010 at Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He was 64 years old.
Louis was born on March 22, 1945 in Fresno, California to Sterling Louis Nabours Sr. and Myrtle Ellen Skinner Nabours. He moved from Fresno to Ponca City in 1948 where he grew up and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1963. He attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and later received his BA from Tulsa University. Louis enlisted in the United States Army on September 26, 1966 where he was stationed in El Paso, Texas, Fort Lewis, Washington and Kaiserslaughten, Germany. On December 1, 1967 he married Shirley Louise Campbell in Ponca City at the Second Baptist Church. Louis was honorably discharged from military service on September 3, 1969.
He was an IT specialist throughout his career and he worked at Phillips Oil in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and the Champlain Oil Company in Enid, Oklahoma. He then went to work for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C., he then moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he worked for the Department of Agriculture, then to Dallas, Texas and then Omaha, Nebraska. In 1998 he moved to San Antonio, Texas where he worked in Austin, Texas for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and at the time of his retirement in 2008 he worked for the Treasury department having a total of 18 years service for the federal government.
He is survived by his loving wife, Louise of 42 years two sons, Sterling Louis Nabours III and wife, Amy of Nashville, Tennessee, Stephen Lee Nabours and wife, Stephanie of Granby, CT and daughter, Shiree Lynnette Kirby and husband, Jason of New Braunfels, Texas sister, Brenda Thorpe and husband, Gary of Blackwell, Oklahoma, brother, Floyd Cobb and wife, Jan of Stillwater, Oklahoma stepsister, Nadine Nelson nine grandchildren, Natalie Kirby, Summer Kirby, Jaden Kirby, Sterling Louis Nabours IV, Campbell Nabours, Alex Nabours, Zachary Nabours, Michael and Kathryn Nabours fatherinlaw, Coolidge Campbell as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Sterling Sr. and mother, Ellen Cobb and stepfather, Floyd Cobb stepsister, Juanita Cobb Turner brotherinlaw, Alvin Campbell and motherinlaw, Mary Lou Campbell.
Casket bearers for the service will be his sons, Sterling Nabours III and Stephen Nabours soninlaw, Jason Kirby, brother, Floyd Cobb brotherinlaw, Calvin Campbell, brotherinlaw, Gary Thorpe and nephew, Ray Davis Jr.
A formal visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2010 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Reverend Bob Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
