Roy Ball, longtime resident of the Shidler area, passed Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Fairfax Hospital. He was 97 years of age.
Roy was born March 3, 1916 at Fair Play, Missouri, the son of Otis Lee Ball and Kittie Crain Ball. He was a 1936 graduate of Barnsdall High School where he was active in basketball and softball.
Roy entered military service on March 4, 1942 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served his country proudly in the United States Army Artillery, Company B, 1857th Service Command Unit. During his tour of duty he received the Purple Heart, the EAME Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and 3 Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged from the Army on October 16, 1945. Roy moved to the Shidler community shortly after his military duty.
He was married to Maggie Bogahdah Bowker on January 12, 1946 in Sedan, Kansas, with the couple making their first home at Webb City. Roy retired from Phillips Oil Company as a Class A mechanic on January 1, 1979 after 33 years of employment. Roy also had played on the Phillips Oil Company softball team for several years. His hobbies included traveling, woodworking, building bird houses, and building stools for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his four sons, Roy Lee Ball and wife Diana of Stillwater, Frank John Ball of Ponca City, Raymond Louis Ball of Shidler and Carl Orville Ball of Shidler three daughters, Bogahdah Ann Murray of Ponca City, Dona Jo Ball of Kaw City and Ladoma K. Bryan and husband John of Kaw City 13 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren two brothers, Bernard Ball and Otis Lee Ball two sisters, Norma Jean Perrier and Delores Swain numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Maggie three brothers, Raymond Ball, Joe Allen Ball and John Robie Ball one sister, Dorothy Carter.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Washunga Cemetery North of Newkirk. Pastor Dennis Wildman of the Burbank First Baptist Church will be the presiding minister. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be sons, Roy Lee Ball, Frank John Ball, Raymond Ball and Carl Orville Ball and grandsons, Raymond Louis Ball Jr., Michael Roy Murray, Clinton Oliver Bryan, and
Thaddeus Josiah Ball.
