Roxie Schrader

d. July 11, 2013

On Thursday, July 11, 2013 at The Cedars in McPherson, KS, Roxie J. Schrader, 95, of Ponca City, OK, was greeted in heaven by Jesus and the many friends and family who had passed on before her. Roxie was born September 9, 1917 to Bill and Blanche Gentry Blackburn on her mothers Cherokee Indian allotment near Vinita, Ok. Roxie grew up in Sapulpa, Ok, graduating from Sapulpa High School as a member of the National Honor Society and considered drama her cup of tea. Upon graduation she joined her parents and younger sister, Ruth Margaret in Ponca City, OK. She resided there until August, 2011, when poor health forced her to move to McPherson, KS.

Roxie was united in marriage to Roy F. Lefty Schrader on March 17, 1939 in Arkansas City, Ks. This union lasted 54 years until Roys death in May, 1993.

As a teen, and new to Ponca City, one of her first exciting jobs was working Saturdays as a dime store clerk where she met many of the locals. She was also employed in office administration for several local businesses. Later, she became a district manager for World Book Encyclopedia overseeing Kay, Grant and Noble counties. Wanting to stay closer to home, she became an Avon representative and spent many years working for the Kay county Election Board. She was a charter member of MiJuVe Club. Her membership spanned over 60 years. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school at the primary level at Albright United Methodist Church and, later, at First Assembly of God, of which she is a current member. However, Roxie considered her most rewarding career as that of wife and mother.

Roxie had great faith and a deep love for our Lord and Savior. She was quick to share the story of salvation through Jesus Christ with everyone she met. She treasured her daily devotionals, Christian friends, family ties and had a zest for life until the end. She loved to give inspirational talks to clubs and church groups. Her love of children extended not only to her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren but the neighborhood kids as well. She always took time to talk to them, making them feel special and handing out treats to all. Her hobbies included painting, ceramics, crossword puzzles, calligraphy, sewing and cooking, where she was quick to prepare large meals for any special occasion.

Roxie is survived by her three children, Gary Schrader and wife Karen of Grove, OK Joe Schrader and wife Joyce of Stillwater, OK Gayle Boyett and husband Greg of McPherson, KS, her nine grandchildren, Lisa Jones, Turlock, CA Gayla Miller and husband Lorenzo, Ponca City Sandee Tezaguic and Husband Fernando, Wichita Falls, TX Hannah Lopez and husband Enrique, Ft. Collins, CO Melody Schrader, Stillwater, OK Daniel Schrader, Tulsa, OK Talisha Sherry and husband Jim, Hutchinson, KS Tabitha Lummus and husband Tony, McPherson, KS Damion Boyett and his wife Shannon, McPherson, KS nineteen greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgrandchild.
