Rose Ovelta Hawkins, 90, gained her angel wings September 6, 2022.
Rose was born in Ralston, Oklahoma on July 26, 1932, to Bert and Nina Taylor. She attended Elementary and High School in Kaw City where she graduated with honors as the class Salutatorian in 1950. During her time there she worked in the school library for five years, was nominated for and went to All State for the American Legion for Girls. Rose continued her education at a business school in Denver, Colorado. After she completed her education she married Glenn Hawkins on November 28, 1953, and they made their home in Apperson, Oklahoma.
Rose was a delightful person and loved having family get-togethers and especially cherished July 4th parties with lots of family and friends. She was a good cooked and enjoyed baking cookies for the kids, grandkids, and neighbors. When company came to visit at mealtime, they never left hungry, as she always made sure there was plenty to go around. Rose loved to travel and informally adopted neighbor kids during her trips with Glenn. She was so grateful for their adventures and was able to experience many points of interest including the Smithsonian Institute, Carlsbad Caverns, Mount Rushmore, and Custers Last Stand just to name a few. About five years after the passing of her husband in 2012, Rose began to need more help and she moved in with her son Jimmy and his partner Tammy, where she remained in the good company of her family until her passing.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and two sisters. Left behind to cherish the memories and carry on her legacy are her children, Jimmy Hawkins and Tammy Stevens of the home, Joyce and Mike Johns of Oklahoma City, Barbara and David Miller of Chandler, OK, Kathy and Jim Dowler of Newkirk, OK, Terri and Wade Bradley of Apperson, OK, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
A funeral service, under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Burbank, Oklahoma. She will be laid to rest at the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City, Oklahoma. There will be a Celebration of Life Dinner held at the Burbank Alumni Building following the burial.
