Robert Sylvester

Robert Sylvester, resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 86 years of age.

Robert was born November 9, 1924 at Oilton, Oklahoma, the son of Howell Robert Sylvester and Vonnie Lee Bray Sylvester. He was a 1942 graduate of Oilton High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was present at the Battle of Hurtgen Forest and Battle of the Bulge. He was married to Elvena Ruth Hess in July 1966.

Robert was a retired postal worker with the Ponca City Post Office. His enjoyments included yard work, woodworking, puzzles, reading history, and in earlier years, dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Elvena one daughter, Vickye Dougrey of Lake Charles, Louisiana 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents one son, Gary Michael Johnson in 2005 one brother, Russ Sylvester and one sister, Zena Cook.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at Longwood Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Mike Sweetman presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
