Richard D. Delaney longtime Ponca City resident passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 in Enid. He was 68 years of age. Richard was born on Jan. 25, 1948 in Ponca City the son of Benjamin and Trannie Rutherford Delaney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 16, at Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with David Frees pastor of St Luke's Nazarene Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America at VVA.ORG.
Richard attended school in Ponca City at McKinley, East Junior High and graduating in 1966 at Ponca City High School; he then attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, OK. He served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army during Vietnam receiving numerous Army Commendations, a combat infantry badge as well as being a Purple Heart recipient. He married Eve Penka Inscore which produced his children, Lisa D. Delaney Jamison, Clancey D. Delaney, and his late son Richard (Ricky) D. Delaney Jr. He later met and married Vickie Gildhouse, daughter of the late Edward & Dovie Gildhouse, on Oct. 8, 1979 in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Ponca City and had one child Chelsy Delaney. He worked as a carpenter for Conoco from 1973 until his retirement in 1998. He later became a representative for PFS Investments from 1994 - 2001 while also helping his friends and family with their financial needs. He was a member of the V.V.A., V.F.W. and the American Legion. He enjoyed a good game of darts at Ody's.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie, son, Clancy Delaney and wife Kristy of Medford; and two daughters, Lisa Jamison and husband Will of Medford and Chelsy Delaney of Stillwater; one sister Sue Hesket and husband Danny of Ponca City; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bennie Delaney, Jr.; son, Ricky; in-laws Edward and Dovie Gildhouse; brother-in- law Leroy Gildhouse Jr., as well as numerous family members.
Casket bearers will be Clancy Delaney, Billy Hesket, Danny Hesket, Ronnie Hunt, Bill Tull and Chad Delaney. Honorary casket bearers will be Paul Bates and the Conoco Carpenter Gang.
