Rev. Edwin Hinman, longtime resident and minister of the Ponca City area, passed Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 74 years of age.

Rev. Hinman was born April 2, 1937 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Roy Hinman and Evalina Barnaby Hinman. He attended school at Concho and White Eagle. He served his country in the United States Army where he served from 19581962. He was married to Juanita Collier on December 18, 1972 in Littleton, Colorado

He attended Metro College in Colorado and St. Pauls School of Theology. He was a graduate of the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He earned Associate Degrees in Ministerial Alliance and Alcohol Rehabilitation and Theology. In January of 1997 he was appointed Director of the Native American Womens Alcohol Recovery Center. He formerly served as the Pastor of the Ponca Indian Methodist Church at White Eagle.

His enjoyments included reading, singing Native American songs, drumming, playing and watching Shinny games, talking with others and ministering to the people of Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of the home seven children, Diana Allen of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Kate Jones of Ponca City, Janice Tabor Hinman of Ponca City, Floyd Tabor of Amarillo, Texas, Shirley Moore of San Diego, California, Phillip Tabor of Lexington, Kentucky and Rebecca Watts of Centennial, Colorado one brother, Maynard Hinman of Pawhuska 16 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson on the way numerous nieces and nephews that include Iretta Pensick of Omaha, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents one daughter, Mary Allen and two sisters, Marie Pappan and Mae Hinman five brothers, Maynard Hinman, Lawrence Hinman, Samuel Hinman, Wallace Hinman and Myron Barnaby.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2011 at St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Ponca City with Pastor Lisa CroneSheldon presiding, assisted by Rev. David Wilson, Superintendent of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. Burial will follow in the Ponca Indian Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be Jerry Pitchford, Ray Hinman, Roy Hinman, Bennett Crazy Bear, Richard Burt Hinman and Kevin Williams. Honorary casket bearers will be Myron Hinman, Jimmy Pitchford, Floyd Tabor, Bryon Moore and Gatalan Hoch.
