Raymond Carl Fields Sr.

Raymond Carl Fields, Sr., longtime resident of Shidler, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning in Fairfax Hospital, after a massive heart attack. He was 70.

Born August 24, 1940 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma he was the son of John H. and Pearl L. Sanburn Fields. He grew up in the BlackburnSkeedee area, graduating from Blackburn High School in 1960. He went to work for Frank Marshall Trucking Company in Shidler at an early age driving trucks, later going to work for Bonham Trucking Company in Shidler.

Raymond married the love of his life, Marlene Rayls, September 22, 1962 in Webb City and they made their home in Shidler. The couple just celebrated their 48th anniversary. The couple moved to Blackwell in 1966 where Raymond was employed by Blackwell Zinc. While in Blackwell, he coached little league baseball. They moved back to Shidler in 1974, where he worked for Rose Equipment Co. and later Phillips Petroleum Co. retiring after 20 years of service. He then worked at Calumet Oil Co. in Shidler, retiring in 2006. At the time of his death he drove the dump truck for Chaparral Energy part time. He was known by his fellow workers as Uncle Raym, and by many of the community children as Santa Claus.

He was an avid Shidler Tiger fan even when he didnt have kids in school sports. He was very well known for saying, Mr. Official, when he disagreed with an umpire or referees call, which was often. He never blamed his grandkids for making a mistake in their sports it was always the coachs fault. He coached Tball when his youngest daughter played.
He was loved by all that met him. He was voted Shidler Citizen of the Year in 1998. Raymond was also an avid fisherman, hunter and loved camping in Roaring River, Missouri. He enjoyed raising cattle, but most of all he enjoyed driving that new dump truck for Chaparral Energy.
He was deeply loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of the home two daughters, Karla Streeter and her husband, Lee of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Mandy Fields of Shidler two sons, Raymond Carl Fields, Jr. and his wife, Shelly and Tony Lee Fields and his wife, Amy all of Shidler the light of his life, eight grandchildren, Derika Fields, Danielle Fields, Kade Streeter, Kyle Streeter, Braden Fields, Baylee Fields, Peyton Floyd and Kaley Mae Floyd, who all called him Poppy. He is also survived by three brothers, Alvin Fields of Hominy, Glenn Fields of Newkirk and Don Fields of Ponca City five sisters, Edna Connally of Odessa, Texas, Norma Johnson of Wichita, Kansas, Neoma Deatherage of Pawhuska, Juanita Oliver of Hominy and Dorothy Smith of Kaw City and three special nieces that spent most of their summers with him, Alice Spears, Tina Sue Avallone and Jeannie Lawrence, and their families, and several other nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

Casket bearers for the service will be Danny Alexander, Rick Hosack, Jeff Hunsaker, Greg McWilliams, Casey Cargill and Richard Robinson.

Honorary casket bearers will be the Shidler High School Baseball Team.

The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Shidler School Auditorium with Brother Charles Richey officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Family and friends may call at Grace Memorial Chapel until 12:30 p.m., Sunday. There will then be visitation at the Webb City Church of God from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday. The family would like to thank the Shidler Ambulance Crew and send a special thanks to Todd Roe for his kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shidler Booster Club or to any charity of choice.
