Peggy Schug Vannest, resident of Ponca City, passed away on her birthday, July 31, 2008, at Westminster Village. She was 85. She was born on a farm west of Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Harland and Ruby Schug on July 31, 1923. She attended high school and college in Tonkawa. On July 2, 1942, she married Cliff Vannest of Ponca City, Oklahoma in Tonkawa on the family farm. After WWII, they lived in Ponca City until 1948. At that time they moved to Ft. Morgan, Colorado where they resided for 54 years. She was employed as head billing clerk for the city of Ft. Morgan for 23 years. After her retirement, they returned to Ponca City in 2002 to be near family. Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother who always encouraged and helped those around her. Her family will remember fondly the many trips to the Poudre River in Colorado. She was an avid golfer who played well into her 70s. She is survived by her husband, Cliff of Ponca City; children, Craig Vannest and wife, Mary, Rick Vannest and wife, Sheila and Chris Vannest all of Ponca City; brother, H.K. Schug and wife, Melbalee of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; five grandchildren, Beth Vannest of Ponca City, Cory Vannest of Newton, Kansas, Chad Vannest of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kara Knudsen of Memphis, Tennessee and Justin Vannest of Edmond, Oklahoma; eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. No services have been scheduled at this time, but a memorial service will be held at a later date at Serenity Falls in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma Inc., 1904 N. Union St. Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601-1542 or to the United Methodist Church, 117 East Bijou Ave., Ft. Morgan, Colorado 80701.
