Nettie May Nelson Cox, 94, of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 in Guthrie, OK.
Nettie was born on October 14, 1919 in Deary, Idaho to Sameo Swan and Zula Maud Scott Nelson. When she was 1 year old, they moved to a farm near Ames, OK. She attended all her 12 years of school at Ames Public Schools she then received her B.S. Degree in Education from University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK. She then did undergraduate work at OSU in Stillwater. She had taught Home Economics for 25 years in Ames, OK, Fairfax, OK, Barnsdall, OK and Newkirk, OK. She then taught two years of elementary classes at St. Marys Catholic School in Ponca City, OK where she was also a faithful member. She was also a member of the Fun and Fundamental Family and Community Education, Kay Count Retired Education Assoc. and Oklahoma Retired Education Assoc. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, baking, traveling, taking care of her flowers and she loved pets.
Nettie and Glen Cox were married on May 23, 1959 in Fairfax, OK making their home in Ponca City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 1 sister
Nettie is survived by her son and daughterinlaw Frank Debbie Smith of Guthrie, Grandchildren Richard Smith, Jimmy Amberlea Smith.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Grace Memorial Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Marys Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin Ratterman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
