Nellie Zuccaro

Nellie Warrior Zuccaro went to join in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 12, 2009, after an extended illness. Nellie, E Nee Thah Be, was born to Sylvester Warrior and Violet White Star Warrior on September 29, 1950. Nellie was a member of the Blood Clan of the Poncas and was proud of her heritage. She lived with her extended family in Fox Town before moving to Oklahoma City then back to the Marland area in June, 1954. She grew up on her grandfathers allotment in the Bressie Community, beginning the first grade at Rein School and then became a Marland Tiger where she graduated in 1968. She continued her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and then transferred to the University of Oklahoma in Norman. While at OU she met and married Richard Zucarro and moved to Long Island, New York where she since has made her home. Three daughters were born to this union, Regina, Angela and Rachel. Nellie was a loving, faithful Christian woman and was especially compassionate as an animal advocate. One of her spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit was to be a generous giver, never expecting anything in return Romans 12:8. Caring for her family was Nellies life and she cherished her pets, over ten cats adopted her because of her extraordinary kindness, plus at times a dog, a hamster and a parakeet. She was an avid reader of history and any subject that interested her, especially her Holy Bible. She was a seamstress, sewing clothes and household items for her family. She took pleasure in traveling and visited extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and parts of Europe. She especially loved exploring almost all of the National Parks and taking scenic drives with her family as a way to enjoy the beauty of Gods gift of creation. She was an excellent cook and made the best blueberry pie. Like her parents, gardening was a favorite activity as well as caring for her houseplants. In later years, illness forced her retirement from many of the activities she formerly enjoyed. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers and one daughter. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of the home; daughters, Angela and Rachel; four grandchildren, Olivia, ReGina, Reanna, and Richard; two brothers, Vincent and Sherman; four sisters, Charlotte, Wilma, Anita and Manuella; and many extended family members. A wake service will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Grace Memorial Chapel. A celebration of Nellies life will be held at Grace Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 2 p.m .with the Reverend Jack Shamburger officiating. Burial service will follow at the Ponca Indian Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Brandon Bold Warrior, Justin Bold Warrior, Enos Rhodd, Sylvester Rhodd, David Eagle, Jr. and Florenz Warrior.
