Minnie Kathryn Miller, resident of Ponca City, passed Thursday evening, April 14, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Mary Spore. She was 91 years of age.
Minnie was born August 1, 1919 in Ponca City, the daughter of Orville Reeves and Mabel Klopp Reeves. She attended the Enterprise school thru the 8th grade and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1938. She was married to Gerald Daniel Miller on September 3, 1938 in Perry, Oklahoma where the couple made their first home. The couple moved to a farm near Newkirk in 1942. The couple worked the farm together for 60 years with Minnie doing all the cooking for the farm hands.
She was a member of the Grey Noret Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Grey Noret Church where she taught Sunday school. She also worked as a volunteer cook for Hot Lunches for the Grey Noret School. Mr. Miller passed in May of 2005 at which time Mrs. Miller moved to the Via Christi Assisted Living Center in Ponca City.
Minnie was known as a great cook and her family loved coming to Grandmas for Sunday dinner as she loved spending time around the table with her family. She also enjoyed sewing.
She is survived by her two daughters, Delores Jean Miller and husband, Galen, and Mary Spore and husband, Vester Joe, all of Ponca City 7 grandchildren, Doug Thurman, Debra Barkley, Jennifer May, Amber Turner, Todd Spore, Scott Spore and Marci Greenhagen 2 stepgrandchildren, Galen W. Miller and Andy Miller 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, and one son, Gerry Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Shamburger presiding. Interment will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Doug Thurman, Bill Turner, Keith May, Todd Spore, Scott Spore and Travis Greenhagen.
