Michael Phillip Sardina, resident of Ponca City, passed Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 63 years of age.
Michael was born February 27, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Dominic Sardina and Jean Passheim Sardina. He graduated from Dominquez High School in Paramount, California, later attending college at Cerritos, California. He was married to Hermila Galindo on November 13, 1970 in Hawaii. He served his country in the United States Army with two tours of duty in Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, Airborne Jump Wings, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, numerous other commendations, ribbons and medals. He had served with Battery B, 6th Battalion of the divisions 56th Artillery Unit and later with Company B, 326th Engineer Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division. After his retirement from the Army he served in the New Mexico National Guard.
He was last employed with MidAmerican Door Company of Ponca City. He was a member of the American Legion. Mike loved the outdoors and loved to barbque for family and friends. He was a great mechanic, very hardworking if it was broken he would fix it. He had a passion for lawnmowers. His yard had to be the best looking one in the block. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan and never missed watching a NASCAR race. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, greatgrandfather, neighbor and friend. He will be greatly missed in the lives of many.
He is survived by his wife, Hermila, of the home his mother, Jean Sardina of Ontario, California four children, Michael Sardina, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Monique Ingmire and husband, Sid, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Lynette Sardina of Ponca City, and Leanna Allen and husband, John Wayne, also of Ponca City one brother, James Sardina and one sister, Suzie Ryan 10 grandchildren with 1 on the way and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father one sister, Donna Barbara 2 grandsons, Michael Anthony Sardina Jr., and Ashton Michael Ingmire 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
