May Dickson

May was born September 5, 1916 at Skiatook, Oklahoma, the daughter of A.C. Gillett and Effie Bertha Moody Gillett. She passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009 on the 28th anniversary of her marriage to her beloved Tom Dickson. At the time of her death, May was 92 years old and a resident of Westminster Village. May grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma graduating from Tulsa Central High School. In October of 1939 May married Otto James and moved to Ponca City in 1945. May and Otto had two children, Doris Fisher and Robert Pete James. More than anything else, May was a homemaker, but she was also a Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star with a 50 year pin. She worked several years for both Henry Levi Shoe Store and Frohlichs Dress Shop here in Ponca City. She was also a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Ponca City. In the early 1970s May and Otto retired to Arizona. In 1981 May married Tom Dickson. May and Tom enjoyed traveling everywhere, especially into the desert around Apache Junction, Arizona. These trips were greatly enhanced when her daughter Doris and husband Danny also retired to winter in Arizona. After Tom died, May moved back to Ponca City where she could spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was always a games player, and especially liked card games or anything the grand kids played. May also loved to sing and was a member of the choir in the retirement park where she lived. She is survived by her children, Doris Fisher and husband, Dan and Robert Pete James and wife, Sandy, all of Ponca City; two grandchildren, Kelly Young and husband, Jim Dandridge and Brian James and wife, Mary, all of Ponca City; two step-grandchildren, Dana Fisher of Ponca City and Karen Miles and husband, Kip of Enid, Oklahoma; four great grandchildren, Taylor Young, Kendal James, Kelsey James and Karly James; six step-great grandchildren and other extended family and friends. May was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tom. Casket bearers for the service will be Brian James, Kendal James, Jim Dandridge, Dana Fisher, Dana Fisher II and Kip Miles. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Shamburger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
