Maxine Weaver

Maxine Weaver, 87, of Ponca City, Passed away on Christmas Day surrounded by her family. Maxine was born in Alma, AR on March 20 1925 to Lewis and Beulah Lamb Walker.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lenora CoxStoner, brother Bill Walker and grandsonShannon Weaver.

Around 1930 Maxine moved to Ponca City with her family. Received her education in Ponca, graduating from Ponca City Senior High School in 1943.

Maxine met Wallace, the love of her life, in the eighth grade. They were married on March 3, 1946 and next March would have been their 68 year anniversary. They had been a model of what marriage vows truly mean. Maxine passionately compiled her family genealogy along with Wallace and her sister Lenora.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Wallace their children: Dan Weaver of Ponca City, Beth Harney and her husband Jack of Ponca City, John Weaver of Ponca City, and James Weaver and his wife Catherine of Cassville, MO.

Grandchildren: Kelly Pugh, Laurie Beth Conley, Jennifer McRavin, Laurel Becker, Taylor Weaver, Andrew Harney. 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her last sibling Betty Maddox of Ponca City.
A very special and heartfelt thanks to Joanna Gary, a former student and loving friend, who faithfully visited her every week over the years of her illness.

Maxine was an artist and taught oil painting classes for 25 years in the art studio of her home on 5th Street. Maxines paintings are proudly displayed around the world. During WWII Maxine worked in Richmond California at the Kaiser shipyard welding and hot riveting on Liberty ships for the Navy. On her way back to Ponca she stopped in Wichita and worked for Boeing for a short while. When the war was over Maxine and Wallace married and began their family and careers together. Maxine loved her flowers both to grow and to paint, she was a member of the Day Lily Club and the Art Association. She was a great cook, famous for her fried chicken and cinnamon rolls.

As a young girl Maxine gave her heart to Jesus under the loving guidance of Ms. Bivens who picked her up and faithfully took her to Sunday School and Church. Maxine and Wallace became active members of First Baptist Ponca in 1946. Maxine worked with Junior girls in Sunday School and taught Intermediates in BYPU. In her later years she was class president for Lois Moores Sunday School class, she also taught an art class at First Baptist for senior adults.

Family will receive friends 68 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at Grace Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the 1st Baptist Church Worship Center with her sonRev. James Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dave Becker, Clovis Conley, Ray Cripps, Andrew Harney, George Ivie and Lee Pugh. Honorary Casket Bearer will be H.D. Duff.
