Maxine Schneider, 104, beloved Mother, and Grandmother, was called to her eternal resting place on January 6, 2025. She entered this world on February 3, 1920, in Ponca City, OK, born to Arthur Lee Golay and Leota (Kirk) Golay.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the First Christian Church with Pastor Stephen Johnson officiating. A visitation will be held Friday, January 10, 2025, at Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City with the family in attendance to receive friends and relatives from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked memorial donations to be made in her name to First Christian Church or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma
Maxine attended Garfield and Lincoln elementary, and Ponca City Junior High and High School, graduating in 1937. After graduation she attended Ponca City Business School. She worked for Lew Wentz Oil Co, Homer Luther Music Store, and later the Selected Service Draft Board of Ponca City. She also made custom designed drapes for Mock Fashion Floors. On July 26, 1941, she married her high school sweetheart, Oran (C. L.) Schneider in Independence, KS and they made their home in Ponca city, OK. Maxine lived with her parents while CL was serving his country during World War II in the US Army. During Maxines early years she volunteered at the Opportunity Center and drove for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing Golf, taught Sunday School, enjoyed Square Dancing and sang in the church choir and other musical groups. She loved Chocolate, tacos, working outside in the yard, birdwatching, reading romance novels, telling a good joke and watching old movies. She was a seed gatherer, a coin and stamp collector, and knitter. She made caps for newborns, numerous quilts for grandbabies and is fondly known for her famous dish rags she made while in her "nest". Her love and commitment to her family and church have taken center stage these 104 plus years. She has been the keeper of the family history and has diligently filled many albums with special memories. She moved to Creekside Assisted living in 2021. She was selected as oldest living resident in 2023 and 2024 by the Oklahoma Assisted Living Association and awarded, Centurion of Oklahoma 2020.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Richard Schneider and wife, Hallie of New Braunfels, Texas, Janie Phelps and husband Tom of Stockton, Ca and Chuck Schneider and wife Beverly of Ponca City, OK. Six grandchildren, Jed Phelps, Jyl McPhee, Jeromy Schneider, Ashley Burson, and Chad Schneider, fifteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, which she was lovingly known as Mom, Auntie Max and Grandma Maxine.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband CL in 2005, her siblings, Bernice Crane, Arthur Lee (Duke) Golay Jr and one grandson, Derek Schneider.
