Maxine Beatrice Morgan, Resident of Ponca City died on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 86. Maxine was born on November 9, 1922 in Crescent, Oklahoma the daughter of Arthur Phinnes Williams and Beatrice Clark Williams. Her family moved to Red Rock, Oklahoma in the 1920s where she attended school and graduated. She received her teaching degree from OSU in Stillwater. Maxine taught at McCord School for several years. She loved teaching, reading and keeping up with her former students. Maxine was very interested in genealogy and could give a bit of history about everyone she met. Maxine was also a member of the First Christian Church in Ponca City for several years. Survivors include her sons, Steve Cockrell and wife, Judi of Battleground, Washington and Richard and wife, Edith Mae Cockrell of Marland, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Andrew Cockrell of Battleground, Washington, Kelli and Anthony Beguin of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Tara and Erron Kauk of Red Rock, Oklahoma, Mark Burgess of Marland, Oklahoma; 6 great grand children; and one brother, M.H. Williams and wife, Ruth of Red Rock, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Stanley Cockrell; second husband, James Morgan; daughter, Janell Cockrell; son, Charles Cockrell; two sisters and one brother. A formal visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Grace Memorial Chapel. The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2009 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Oklahoma with the Rev. Larry Metzger of First Christian Church officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church, 210 North 5th Street, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
