Mary Lavon Ivers, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Shawn Manor Nursing Center. She was 80.

Mary was born August 20, 1929 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Howard E. May and Inez Carroll May. She was a 1947 graduate of Ponca City High School. She first started employment with Conoco in the Controllers Department, Financial Accounting Division from June 1, 1947 to October 31, 1950 processing Accounts Payable. She worked from 1951 to 1977 as an accounts payable clerk in the Controllers Department of Financial Accounting. From 1977 to 1980 she worked in the Auditing Department as an accounts payable audit clerk. From 1980 to 1985 she worked in the Auditing Department as the Bank Reconcilements Supervisor. She retired from Conoco in 1985 as an Accounting Supervisor after 37 years of employment. She had participated in Employee Performance Appraisal and Review and Fundamentals of Supervision course at the University of Oklahoma. She also participated in course work from the Wilson Learning Corp. in managing interpersonal relationships.

She was married to Paul H. Ivers on November 11, 1950 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Womens Auxiliary. Her enjoyments included dancing, playing golf and traveling to several locations around the world. In the late 1940s and early 1950s she acted in plays with the Conoco Playhouse. In the 1950s she and her husband attended motorcycle racing throughout the country as her husband was a racer. She was also active in water skiing, participating in water skiing shows in the 1960s. Mary and her husband owned and operated Ivers Cycle and Accessories in the 1970s.

She is survived by her son, Brett Ivers and wife, Terri, of Ponca City one sister, Carroll Punches also of Ponca City two granddaughters, Trisha Johnson and husband, Jack, of Wichita, Kansas and Lindsey Nightengale of Maize, Kansas four great grandchildren, Chelsea, Austin, Abbey and Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents husband one sister, Chris Clara Beguin.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
