Mary Dodson

Mary Catherine Cathy Dodson, former Ponca City resident, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Grace Living Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was 81 years old. Cathy was born on January 23, 1928 in Webb City, Oklahoma to William Leonard Cearley and Ecta Oma Murrell Cearley. She attended Shidler Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1941. She married William Thomas Bill Dodson of Shawnee on May 1, 1945 in McLoud, Oklahoma. To this union, two children, John and Patsy were born. The couple moved to Ponca City in 1986. Cathy was a seamstress for several years and she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was active with the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ in Ponca City and Stillwater for many years. She is survived by her children, John Dodson of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Patsy Chertrude of Turnwater, Washington; sister, Polly Black and husband, John; grandchildren, Victoria Renault, Mary Ann Malloy, Chris Benson and Jennifer Shannon; great grandchildren, Corbin Benson, Dyllan Skaggs and Cade Renault; sister-in-law, Georganna Cearley of Duncan, Oklahoma; and nephew, John Cearley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 1997; and brother, John Leonard Cearley. At Mrs. Dodsons request her body was donated to the O.U. Health Sciences Center for medical research.
