Marie Pappan, resident of White Eagle, passed away on her birthday, Monday, August 15, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 67 years of age.

Marie was born August 15, 1944 in White Eagle, Oklahoma, the daughter of Roy Hinman and Evalina Barnaby Hinman. The granddaughter of Samuel Hinman and great granddaughter of Chief Standing Buffalo. She was a graduate of the Ft. Sill Indian School. She was married to Thomas Pappan Sr. in November of 1971 in Ponca City.

Marie was a SecretaryTreasurer of the Ponca Tribal Business Committee where she formed the Emergency Assistance Program. While on the Business Committee she traveled throughout the United States attending various workshops for the Ponca Tribe. She was also the DirectorCook for the Senior Citizen Program and very much enjoyed working with the elders. Until her illness she worked for the National Indian Council on Aging at the Jules Valdez Building in White Eagle. She was a member of the Ponca Indian Baptist Church.

Her enjoyments included spending time with her grandchildren and family, whom she loved very much. She also enjoyed going to the casinos. Marie was always kind and considerate of others, and was a good wife, mother and aunt to her family. She never let on how sick she was and it breaks our hearts to let her go, she will be missed by all her loved ones, family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas, of the home five children, Thomas Pappan Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Deforrest Pappan and wife Evona, of Ponca City and Lillian Lisa Pappan of Ponca City two of the children born to a previous marriage are Bennett Crazybear Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Ponca City and Rose Marie Crazybear of Ponca City two brothers, Edwin Hinman and Maynard Hinman six grandchildren, Christian Crazybear, Clinton Mitchell Pappan, Gabriel Scott Pappan, Phyllis Illyce Kiyana Pappan, Jayla Jordan Pappan and Thomas Jay Pappan III two great grandchildren, Nevaeh Rose and Tiaira Jade she is also survived by her niece, Iretta Pensick from Fremont, Nebraska who spent many days with her during her illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Evalina Hinman one daughter, Darlene Pappan a granddaughter, Teeana Pappan one sister, May Hinman four brothers, Lawrence, Sam, Wallace and Myron Hinman.

Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Ponca Indian Baptist Church. A noon meal will be served on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the church with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m.. The Rev. Clifford Springwater will preside. Burial will follow in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be Roy Hinman, Ray Hinman, Myron Hinman, Leland Pappan III, Thomas Pappan Jr. and Deforrest Pappan. Honorary casket bearers will be Bennett Crazybear Jr., Christian Crazybear, Clinton Mitchell Pappan, Gabe Scott Pappan and Thomas Pappan III.
