N. Mae Vaden, longtime resident of Shidler, passed Friday, December 16, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident. She was 72 years of age.

Mae was born January 23, 1939 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Elwood Chouteau and Louise Werneke Chouteau. She attended school at Washunga and was very proud of her Native American Kaw heritage. She was married to Jesse Lee Vaden Jr. on December 7, 1954 in Shidler. She had been employed as a beauty operator. She also raised dogs, operating the JM Kennels. Her enjoyments were spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, gardening, playing bingo and her Schnauzer dogs.

She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Ray and husband, Bobby one son, Joe Dean Vaden one brother, Johnny Test and one sister, Juanita Christian three grandchildren, Aaron Ray and wife, Christi, Shannon Ray Collyar and Travis Ray six great grandchildren, Jesse Lee Ray, Junior Lee Ray, Brittnee Stierwalt, Cidney Collyar, Kiley Collyar and Wrangler Collyar several other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Jesse one sister, Betty Taylor.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. The family will at the home at 600 North Gypsy in Shidler.
