Loren Lee Clinton, resident of Ponca City, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 68.
Loren was born June 10, 1942 in Ponca City, the son of Earl Joseph Clinton and Lucy Marlett Clinton. He was a 1961 graduate of Ponca City High School and attended Northern Oklahoma College. He was married to Belvadora Kay Sanders on August 20, 1961 in Lordsburg, New Mexico. The couple lived in the Mammoth San Manuel, Arizona area from 1965 to 1993. He was employed at ASARCO, American Smelting and Refinery Company in Hayden, Arizona prior to his retirement in 1993. While living in Arizona Loren was active in the Little League Baseball program, serving as coach and president while his four sons were growing up. He was also active with the Adult Womens Softball League, organizing tournaments for fundraisers. He was known as the Arizona Okie on his CB radio and was president several years for the REACT radio team. The couple moved back to Ponca City in 1993.
Lorens enjoyments were watching sports, especially football, baseball, track and was an avid NASCAR fan, never missing a race on TV. Loren was a very gifted athlete during his schools days, participating in baseball, football, track and wrestling. He was considered one of the best athletes to have ever played for PoHi and was recognized as a past PoHi hero. Loren will always be remembered by family and friends for his gift of gab and for the many stories he was forever willing to tell of his growing up years. He never met a stranger he couldnt talk to.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, of the home four sons, Lauren W. Clinton and wife, Patricia, of Claremore, Bryan Keith Clinton and wife, Laura, of Tucson, Arizona, Garin Lee Clinton and wife, Cheryl, of Ponca City and Dwayne E. Clinton and wife, Christine, of Ponca City two brothers, Earl Clinton, San Manuel, Arizona and Jimmy Clinton, Oklahoma City two sisters, Luciena Starrett, San Manuel, Arizona and Lorene Miller, Chino Valley, Arizona 10 grandchildren, Candice Kay Clinton, Scott Keith Clinton, Bethany Nicole Beathard and husband, Dane, Nathan William Clinton, Zachary Don Clinton, Matthew Dwayne Clinton, Nicole Rene Clinton, Rebekah Ann Clinton, Terrence Scott Clinton and Elizabeth Sue Clinton 2 great grandchildren, Jonah Clinton and Adam Grudowski 7 stepgrandchildren, Dagan Leon Wyckoff, Jason Kane Wyckoff, Jennifer Hutchison, Cassandra Hutchison, Summer Hutchison, Lorie Vargas and Nina Vargas other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents 2 sisters, Earlene Lamb and Josephine Ball 1 brother, Lucien Clinton and one greatgranddaughter, Ellie Sue Beathard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Foursquare Gospel Church with Pastor Blaine Herron presiding. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Lauren W. Clinton, Carl McBride, Garin Lee Clinton, Dwayne E. Clinton, Ron McKinney and Tony Mesa. Honorary casket bearers are Nathan Clinton, Zachary Clinton and Matthew Clinton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of choice, in care of Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 North 14th, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
