Lloyd “Ray” Hinman passed away Friday, October 18, 2019, at his home in Ponca City, Oklahoma at the age of 63. Ray was born to Samuel and Wanda (Youker) Hinman on June 26, 1956 in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
Ray grew up in the Ponca City area graduating from Marland High School in 1974. Growing up Ray and his friends frequently swam at Bogans. After graduating Ray joined the US Marines and served his country proudly. Ray was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, cheering them on for years. He enjoyed all sports, but mainly basketball and football. Ray had a horde of friends that were dear to him. He could usually be found hanging out with his friends and family, playing dominoes, shooting pool or playing card games and making everyone smile. Music was always on when Ray was around. His favorite was older Motown, but any music would do. Ray also enjoyed playing Shinny at the tribal functions. Ray enjoyed his family, especially his grandkids. He will be affectionately remembered by them all as “Papa Cool”. Ray was a member of the Ponca Nation Tribe.
Ray is survived by his children; Lydia Rhodd and her husband Russell, Jaelyn Hinman, Jeremy Spottedbear, Robert Spottedbear and Cory Spottedbear, adopted mother; Donna Pappan, fourteen grandchildren, great grandchildren; Alayna Rhodd, Elise Rhodd, Kylee Thornton, Shannon Thornton, Louisille Rhodd, Doug Rhodd, IV, Colby Willey and Matthew Willey, siblings; Delores Terry, Tara Hinman, Karen Littlecook, Roy Hinman, Theresa Hinman Zazuela and Alan Waters as well as host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; Samuel and Wanda Hinman, brothers; Theodore Youker, Warner Dave Littlecook and sister; Sandra I Hinman Haight.
Services in Ray’s honor will conclude Wednesday, October 23, 2019. A Noon Feast will be held with the Funeral Service immediately following at the Ponca Indian Cultural Center presided by Pastor Alan Carney and Pastor Jim White. Ray will be laid to rest in the Ponca Indian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Connor Rhodd, Brian Ibarra, Marcus Hinman, Myron Hinman, Kelsey Hinman and Alex Youker. Honorary Pallbearers include; Wiley Whitehorn, Joe Thicknail, Sammy Dee LeClair, Scotty Simpson, Sr and Tim Bassett.
