Laveta Mae Shelton, longtime resident of Ponca City, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 19, 2011.
Laveta was born November 13, 1934 at Newkirk, Oklahoma, the daughter of William J. Fox and
Lillie Mae Knight Fox. She was a 1953 graduate of Ponca City High School. Laveta was married to her best friend and sweetheart Bob Shelton on October 29, 1954 in the Ranch Drive Baptist Church.
Laveta attended two years of Nursing School at Winfield, Kansas, finishing her Nursing Program at the Ponca City Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse for 41 years, retiring in 2008 having worked with many of the Ponca City doctors. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Ponca City where she taught Sunday School for special needs children for 25 years. She fully lived the teachings of Christ as shown by her loving spirit, kindness and generosity. Her enjoyments were her grandchildren and church activities.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Bob, of the home three children, Connie Rae Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Robert Shelton and wife, Tracy, of Marland, Oklahoma, and Tami McKeever and husband, Danny, of Cashion, Oklahoma 8 grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Johnson, Holly Chandler and husband, Colt, Amy Heppel and husband, Shaun, Colt Kerr and wife, Brandy, Michael McKeever and wife, Deann, Jacob McKeever and wife, Kristy, and Kristen Lafave and husband, Jesse 9 great grandchildren, Mason and Raylee Thompson, Landon Schwarz, Sarah and Adam Henley, Braeden Bennett, Garet McKeever, Max McKeever and Devon Meadows one sister, Marva Jean Cox and husband, Harold, of Blackwell, Oklahoma and one brother, Keith Duane Fox and wife, Sandy, of Yukon, Oklahoma numerous nieces and nephews. She was a mom, grandmother and friend to too many to mention. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the First Baptist Church Worship Center with Hospice Chapel Rev. Jack Shamburger presiding, assisted by First Baptist Church Pastor Rev. Andy Taylor. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
