Larry Shannon Platt, resident of Ponca City, died on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. He was 64. Larry was born on April 3, 1945 to William Star Platt and Francis Myrtle May Cannady Platt in Lucien, Oklahoma. He attended school in Lucien, Hayward and Perry where he made the wrestling team at 98 pounds. Larry graduated from Covington High School. He was a boy scout and received the Eagle Award and Good Country Award. Larry married Darlene Martin in 1964 and was married for 21 years. He worked in grocery stores in Enid and Ponca City; and was a route salesman for Frito Lay for 26 years until his retirement in 2006. Larry loved to work. He had a strong work ethic and always tried to do his best. Larry enjoyed gardening, hunting, training hunting dogs, being outdoors and going to church; but most of all, he loved fishing and he won numerous fishing tournaments. He also loved people and didnt know a stranger. He married Pamela Jo McKee on September 20, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife, Pam; children, Theron Platt, Denise Saylor and fianc, Ray and William Bill Platt and wife, Becky; grandsons, Coalton Saylor, Christopher Platt, Reagan Platt, Devlin Platt and Storm Barnett; brother, Loren Platt; and several aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Platt; and brother, Francis Platt. Casket bearers will be Mike McAnally, Mark Reeves, Troy Hasenfrantz, John Goeppinger, Larry Purdy and Jim Iraggi. Honorary bearers will be Doug Flink, Joe Buffalo, Jim Jones and Greg Posey. Memorial contributions can be made in Larrys honor to the American Cancer Society, Oklahoma chapter, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123. A formal visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17th at Grace Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Northeast Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Nigh officiating. Burial will follow at Collins Cemetery in Okeene, Oklahoma under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
