Larry Dale Harrison, longtime resident of Ponca City, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 18, 2012. He was 73 years of age.

Larry was born August 28, 1938 in Olustee, Oklahoma. He was the only child of James A. and Wilma L. Bradley Harrison. From the age of 2 he was raised in Mangum, Oklahoma. Larry graduated from Mangum High School in 1956 and attended Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University. He spent 5 years with the State of Oklahoma Highway Department as an engineer trainee and surveyor party chief. Larry went to work for Conoco in 1963. A career employee of the Production Research Division, he advanced from technician to Senior Research Technologist and retired in 1997 after 32 years of service.

In his earlier years, Larry had been active in youth programs in Ponca City, having coached YMCA football and baseball, was a Cub Scout leader and was active in the PoHi quarterback club. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and taught the young peoples Sunday School class and Training Union as well as the Young Married Couples Sunday School class. He also spent several years as a sponsor at the church youth camp at Falls Creek.

Larry and his wife, Sandra Lansdon were married on November 21, 1987, establishing their home in Ponca City. He dearly loved his wife and family and enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and watching their sports activities, traveling, and reading. He was an avid fan of both O.U. and O.S.U. sports.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home his mother, Wilma Harrison, of Ponca City two sons, Jimmy Williamson and wife, Kerri, of Bartlesville, and Lt. Col. Larry Harrison II, U.S. Army two daughters, Kim Craun and husband Rick, of Weatherford, Texas and Carrie Cantrell and husband Bill, of Ponca City three stepchildren, Steven Newport and wife Marty, of Edmond, Jennifer Turner and husband Cameron, of Edmond, and Ryan Newport, also of Edmond He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Casie Walker, Erin Hatter, Chase Cantrell, Abby Cantrell, Casey Repine, Cara Cantrell, Ben Harrison, Danielle Harrison, Kennedy Turner, MLissa Newport, Karson Turner, Cooper Newport, John Harrison and Kate Turner 5 great grandchildren, Kaleb and Brenna Walker, Trinity and Hunter Carter and Peyton Repine, and one great granddaughter, Reagan, to be born in September. Larry was preceded in death by his dad.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Taylor presiding. Memorial services are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Honorary casket bearers are Marvin Yost, Fred Randel, Ed Sauzek, James Stolhand, Gale Prather, Lee Struble, Vester Spore, Bob Denson, Clint Belmear, H.T. Duff, Burton Cassad and Steve Larimer.
