Kirby Wayne Kemble, age 68, passed away on May 31, 2016 at Creekside Village in Ponca City, OK. He was born on April 21,1948 in Pawnee, OK to Ellsworth "Chick" Kemble and Lucy Cornell Kemble.
Kirby grew up in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Wichita High School South in 1965. After high school he attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS where he received a Bachelor degree. After college, he joined the Air Force in 1970 and served for six years. He was stationed in England and Germany, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1976.
Upon discharge from the Air Force, Kirby returned to Wichita and attended Wichita State University where he received a second Bachelor degree. In 1983, he began employment for the Sedgewick County District Court in downtown Wichita, where he remained employed until he retired in April of 2010. He then moved to Ponca City, OK to be with his family.
Kirby enjoyed reading, watching TV, listening to music, surfing on his computer, and traveling. He was a member of the Ponca and Creek tribes and enjoyed singing Ponca songs at gatherings in Oklahoma as well as other states. Kirby was a member of Indian Southern Baptist Church in Wichita, KS.
Kirby was preceded in death by both of his parents and nephew, Mark Pensoneau.
Kirby is survived by his sister Diana Kemble Feathers of Ponca City, brother James Kemble and companion, Charlsi of Ponca City, sister Terri Roy and brother-in-law Wesley Roy of Ponca City; his niece Andrea Kemble of Hominy, OK, nephews Joseph Feathers of Ponca City, James Kemble Jr. of Hominy, William Kemble and wife, Brooklyn, and children of Tulsa; and grandchildren Anthony, Alissa, and Acey of Hominy, and numerous other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, at Grace Memorial Chapel 7 p.m. June 2, 2016. A memorial service will be held at Grace Memorial Chapel at 1 p.m. on June 3, 2015
followed by Burial at the Ponca Indian Cemetery.
