Kenneth Banner

Kenneth Ken Eugene Banner, affectionately known as Spoon was born May 8, 1966 in Ponca City to Mrs. Ollie Buffington. Ken was the baby boy in this family of three sons. He was a fun loving and caring person who added much joy to his family.

Ken spent most of his life in Ponca City where he attended Garfield Elementary School, West Middle School and graduated from Ponca City High School in the class of 1984. Although Ken did not participate in organized sports he enjoyed cheering on his many friends and classmates on the Wildcat football teams and basketball teams.

Ken attended Langston University and before his illness was a student at Northern Oklahoma College pursuing a degree in business.

Ken worked in many positions and was a steadfast employee of Mid America Door of 11 years. Ken always found something to keep him busy whether it was tinkering with his Cadillac Ken loved his cadis, playing with King, his dog, watching the best football team in Oklahoma, the Sooners he enjoyed cheering and calling plays for his team, listening to music, or spending many quite hours sitting on the front porch with his favorite girl, his number one love, his mother Ms. Ollie.

Ken ended his earthly journey on September 12, 2013 at 8 p.m. He was preceded in death by his pops, Alex Buffington, grandparents, Charlie and Narcissie Patterson, and a brother, Willie Charles Banner, as well as many aunts and uncles among which included his much loved Aunt Red Clara West.

Ken leaves to carry the torch and his chair on the front porch to his four children Kyle Mills, Edmond, Oklahoma, Roman Elston and Kenyatta Banner, Ponca City, and Kensey Banner of Tulsa his best friend and devoted mother Ollie Mae Buffington, brother Terry Avis Banner of Ponca City 2 nephews, Terrance and Quinton and one niece, LaCole Banner. He is also survived, cherished and loved by many cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Attucks Community Center, 1001 South 12th Street. Rev. Elza Haynes will be the presiding minister. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
