Juni Parks, Ponca City resident, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Via Christi Village Nursing Home. She was 83.

Juni was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Frank Carter and Ruth Bea Jenkins Carter. She grew up in Ponca City where she attended McKinley Elementary School and was a 1943 graduate of Ponca City High School. Juni played violin and bass in school orchestras. She was a Civil Air Cadet, earned her pilots license before the age of twenty, and was later a member of MENSA.

Juni married V. Bruce Parks on May 29, 1963, in Lubbock, Texas. She and Bruce lived life to the fullest residing in many different locations. They loved traveling and had the opportunity to visit 68 countries and three continents plus every U.S. State except Alaska. In 2005 Juni made her last trip to England with her nieces.

Juni held many varied employment positions She worked at Braniff Airlines as a ticket agent, was a travel agent, worked with computers, worked as a technical writer for a childrens clothing manufacturer, and as a postmistress in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Juni liked watching Jeopardy, working puzzles and crosswords but her all time favorite game was pitch which she played on makeshift tables in trains, stations, laundromats and hotel rooms all across Europe. She always kept busy and made it a point to learn new things to keep her mind sharp.

Juni is survived by her foster sister, Ann Younquist and husband Bob of Tallahassee, Fl two stepdaughters, Terry Traner and husband Michael of Arlington, Tx, Debbie Knutson and husband Larry of Longview, Tx nieces Kay Zang of Oklahoma City, Nancy Keathly and husband Don, nephews Tom Sober and wife Pam, Richard Sober and wife Janice, all of Ponca City 10 grandchildren, 4 greatchildren, numerous great nieces and nephews and friend Mandy Gann. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bruce, and sister Dorothy Sober Martin.

Juni was a friendly outgoing person who made and maintained friendships around the world including her sisters in Beta Sigma Phi from across the United States, England and Germany.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Grace Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Mike Sweetman, Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601, or to any charity of choice.
