J.P. Ray Reed, at the age of 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Joseph P. Reed was born on Jan. 3, 1928. The son of Homer Vena Smith Reed in Hominy, Oklahoma.
J.P. met his future wife, Dorothy Sisson, at the age of 15 when they both sat at church together. They kept the love alive through love letters after he joined the U.S. Army, at age 18.
While in the army he served 18 months in the South Pacific as an ambulance driver with a medical unit following World War II., during the occupation of Japan.
Dorothy waited patiently for his return and they were married Sept. 25th, 1947 five days after he made his way home.
After marriage, J.P. worked briefly at the ice plant in Hominy, Oklahoma before embarking on a career with A.G. Oliphant Oil Company, later to become CEJA Corporation, an oil and gas exploration firm. He retired after 43 years of service.
J.P loved camping, fishing, golfing, gardening, hunting, wood carving, and being his soninlaws honorary shop assistant .
His deep love for his family was wonderful. Always there with a helping hand or words of wisdom.
He also loved getting together with the guys for breakfast, coffee, and conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Vena Reed, grandson Daron Sears, brother Walter Reed, and sister Ouida French.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home after 66 years and 8 months of marriage, daughter Phyllis Sears and husband Garyon. Son, Jim Reed and wife LaDonna, all of Ponca City. One granddaughter, Michelle Blackstar and husband Sam, Two great granddaughters, Kristina Mikayla Blackstar from Owasso, Oklahoma, brother Bill Reed and wife Pat from Flint, Tx. and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family with be receiving visitors at Grace Memorial Chapel on Friday May, 9 from 68:00 p.m.
The funeral of J.P. Reed of Ponca City, Oklahoma will be held at Grace Memorial Chapel on Saturday May 10, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Adam Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Casket Bearers will be Tom Sattre, Terry Nelson, Mick McKay, Burl Shephard, Billy Roberts, and Pete Horne.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Free Will Baptist Church memorial fund 1900 E. Hubbard Rd., Ponca City, Ok. 74604.
J.P. Reed will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, his love of family, and being just a little ornery. Thankfully, he will remain forever in our hearts.
