Joseph Bennard Lightfoot, 96, of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Via Christi Village in Ponca City, OK.
Joseph was born on Sept. 9, 1917 in Banty, OK to Joseph Kelley and Elizabeth McPherson Lightfoot. He and Alice Hooten were married on Dec. 1, 1945 in Crosby County, TX. He was retired from the USAF as a Master Sergeant. They moved to Ponca City 25 years ago from Tahlequah. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ponca City where he also worked. He was also a member of the 32ndDegree Scottish Rite, Valley of Tulsa Orient of Oklahoma. After retiring from the military he worked at the state prison in McAlester and as a Federal Protection Officer in Arkansas. He loved fishing, gardening and reading his Bible.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 12, 2011. Also by his parents, brothers sisters Homer, Virginia, Wilburn, Mary Frances, Ralph, Joe Melton, and James.
Joseph is survived by his daughter and her husband Shalah and Ron Smith of Burke, VA., granddaughter and her husband Kecia and Steve Lansbury of Burke, VA, and 3 great grandchildren Zoe, Ben and Emma Grace.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bruce Taylor officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ron Smith, Steve Lansbury, Benjamin Lansbury, Perry Lightfoot, David Lightfoot, Nathan Lightfoot, Steve Lightfoot, Bill Hooten, Hurley Bohon, Jerry Hall, Ed Hall and Mike Lindgren.
