John Guinn Smith, resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 53. John was born February 5, 1956 in Guymon, Oklahoma, the son of Herman Smith and Betty Jo Riggs Smith. John graduated from Guymon, Oklahoma High School in 1974 and attended the University of Oklahoma with courses taken in business administration and music. John had worked several years for Mathis Brothers of Oklahoma City prior to moving to Ponca City in 1987. He was employed by Jack Bowker Ford for 10 years and spent the last 2 years working at WBBZ radio in Ponca City. He enjoyed antique collecting, his music, and following the Oklahoma University football team. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; his father, Herman Smith, Guymon, Oklahoma; two children, Rustin Smith of Ponca City and Taren Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Mike Smith and wife, Becky, Oroville, California; five grandchildren, Payton Smith, Ethan Smith, Jules Osburn, Payton Robert Smith and Alexis Taylor Smith; two step-children, Rebecca Lynn Smith and Jennifer Powell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Smith in 2001. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Longwood Cemetery, Ponca City, with Rev. Michael Smith, pastor of the Ponca City First United Methodist Church presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Honorary casket bearers will be Rustin Smith, David Smith, Don Shields, Ron Alexander, Robert Hinson, Tony Carl, Cody Powell, Rick Mathis, Kenny Andrews and Bryan Lee.
