John Bateman Iii

September 1, 1944 — April 21, 2019

John Clemen Bateman, III of Ponca City has gone to his heavenly home. He was 74 years old. Funeral services under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the First Christian Church, 210 N 5th Street, Ponca City. Pastors Glenn and Nina Nestlerode will officiate. Friends are invited to come pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

John was born in Winfield, Kansas on September 1, 1944 to Mr. John Clemen Bateman, Jr. and his wife Mary Evelyn Heflin Bateman. He grew up in Derby, Kansas where his parents owned and operated Jon's Restaurant. While in high school John played football and baseball. He graduated from Derby High School in 1962 then attended college at Prince George's Community College in Largo, Maryland where he received his Associates Degree. On April 14, 1965 he joined the United States Air Force where he obtained the rank of E-5 of Staff Sergeant. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon; and the Vietnam Service Medal. He served his country with pride. He worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

In 2005 he met the love of his life, Janell Pauline Clark. Soon after he proposed and on July 1, 2006 she became his wife. They enjoyed over 12 years of marriage.

John had a talent for building and operating computers. He enjoyed spending time with family and bowling. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Janell of the home; son John Clemen Bateman IV and his wife Jessica of Belton, TX; son Kyle Vernon Bateman and his wife Lindsey Woolever of Ponca City; and daughter Amanda Marie Bateman and her husband Mike Allen of Thorton, Colorado. Grandchildren: John Bateman V, James Paul Bateman, Jaxson Alexander Bateman, Taylor Jacob Bateman, Kyle Vernon Bateman, Jr. and Hannah Woolever. Sister Candy Lynn Musick of Kingsport, Tennessee, and brother Gary Michael Bateman and his wife Ingrid Ruth Krukenberg-Bateman of Schoeningen, Germany. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Grady Wade Musick and niece Reba Lynn Musick. John's family would like to thank the caregivers at the Cimarron Nursing Home in Kingfisher, Oklahoma for the care and concern they provided during his final days.

In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in John's name to the First Christian Church, 210 N 5th Street, Ponca City, OK 74601.

John's cremation arrangements are under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
