Attention on deck This is an Eight Bell announcement Chief Petty Officer John W. Agees watch has been relieved. Shipmates and other Patriots, let it be known that on Friday, April 02, 2010, Chief Petty Officer John W. Agee passed away in his home after a short illness. He was 70 years old. Under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel, John will be cremated and his ashes scattered near his birth home. The family will receive visitors at home in Ponca City from 3p to 6p on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. For directions to the home, email: lucicableone.net.
John was born in Covington, Kentucky to Mary Adeline Doty Holliday and Stanley Holliday. John was raised by his stepfather Robert Lee Agee. John left home at 17 when he joined the Navy and served for 21 years before being honorably discharged. While in the Navy he was stationed at Norfolk, VA Brunswick, ME Lakehurst, NJ Newport, RI Mt. Clemens, MI Naples, Italy and Guam. He also served aboard the USS Randolph the USS Albany and the USS Lookout. While serving in the Navy, he earned his B.B.S. degree in three years, graduating with honors. After leaving the Navy he went to work for the National Weather Service for 16 years, working in Miami, FL Waycross, GA Barrow, King Salmon, and Nome, AK. John retired early from the NWS so that he could move back to Kentucky to help his sister take care of their elderly parents. After they both passed he moved to Ponca City to help take care of his first grandchild and to help care for his ailing motherinlaw. John had also been a member of Mensa until he discovered that Mensans arent really any smarter that the rest of the population. John enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music including classical, blues, swing, and classic pre 1970 country to name a few. He also enjoyed following the market and devising his own systems for entering and exiting the market. But his true joy was his grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary, his younger brother Rocky Ross and two siblings that died in infancy.
John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen Williams Agee of the home and his stepchildren Kathryn Conaghan of Ponca City and Ryan Magel of Jamestown, California. Also, his sister Sherry Agee Luken and her husband Gary of Florence, Kentucky. His brothersinlaw, George Williams of the home and Gary Williams of Ozark, Arkansas, his sisterinlaw Carol Williams Brewster and her husband Waymon of Humble, Texas. John has two grandchildren, Shay and Garrett Hollingsworth of Ponca City. And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma at 1904 N. Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma, 74601. With their help, John was able to pass with the care, dignity, and respect that he deserved. He is loved and will be missed.
