Joe Brown

Joe Douglas Brown, resident of the McCord community, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his home. He was 64 years of age.

Joe was born April 29, 1947 at Ponca City, the son of Kenneth George Brown and Thelma Pauline McGuckin Brown. He was a 1965 graduate of Lamont High School. He was married to Nancy Lee Naaden on February 22, 1969 in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Joe was engaged in farming for most of his life and had also worked 20 plus years at Conoco as a computer operator. After retiring from Conoco in the late 1980s he returned to farming alongside his father. He also served as music minister at various churches throughout the state that included Immanuel Baptist in Blackwell, Longwood Baptist Church, Garber Baptist Church and Grace Pointe Baptist Church in Midwest City. In earlier years he had served in the Army Reserve.

His enjoyments were singing with the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, fishing, hunting and farming with his dad.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home one daughter, Michelle Yourdon and husband, Travis, of Ponca City 3 grandchildren, Tasha Riley A.J. of Essex, Iowa, Heath Snodgrass and Sean Snodgrass, both of Ponca City sistersinlaw, Linda Brown and Maggie Oscarson brothersinlaw, Niki Mugg and Stewart Naaden and wife, Beth several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Thelma Brown one son, Heath Brown one sister, Linda Brown Mugg one brother, Gary Brown 2 brothersinlaw, Lee Naaden and DuWayne Oscarson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Northeast Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Nigh presiding. Interment will follow in the Tonkawa I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be Dennis Long, Dennis Wildman, Todd Cooper, Rich Reece, Lloyd Fedde and Charlie Goodnough. Honorary casket bearers will be Steve Hendricks, Larry Grantz, Jeff Brown, Travis Yourdon, Niki Mugg and Dwight Barney. All members of the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma and former Masters Men Quartet members, Gary Brown, Troy Rupe, Gilbert Morris and Raneal Perry.
