Jess LaRue Morris, resident of Ponca City, passed Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 73 years of age.

Jess was born June 15, 1940 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Joseph LaRue Morris and Mae Wood Morris. He attended school at Burbank, Oklahoma. He was married to Lorena Suggs on September 12, 1959 in Ponca City.

He was employed 49 years as a meat packer. He was employed most of that time at the Rodeo Plant in Arkansas City, and from 1990 to 2006 for the John Morrell Meat Packing Co. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and his enjoyments included watching westerns, eating, and dancing at Senior Citizens dances.

He is survived by two children, Christie Jo Evans and partner Brad Woods, and Tod Morris and wife, Eddie, all of Ponca City his partner Thelma Snedeker of Ponca City one sister, Elizabeth Merrick and husband Robert, of Georgetown, Texas, and one brother, Hooley Porter and wife Marjorie, of Pawhuska two grandsons, J.T. Todd and wife Cassie, and Jake Todd, all of Ponca City. He was preceded in death by his parents one son, Tommie LaRue Morris in 1977 two sisters and two brothers.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City with Rev. Don Stanton presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers are J.T. Todd, Jake Todd, Brad Woods, Tyler Glezen, Logan Glezen, Scott Glezen and Richard McCuller.
