James K. J.K. Buttram, 92, of Byars, formerly of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Tecumseh, OK.
J.K. was born on November 19, 1918 in Hill County, TX to Hugh Key and Annie Mae Conger Buttram. He grew up and graduated high school in Hillsboro, TX. J.K. had a love of airplanes from a young age. He befriended several pilots while growing up in Hillsboro and was privileged to learn to fly in their private planes. He entered the U.S. Air Force where he continued his dream of flying and trained young pilots while serving his country. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he moved to Ponca City where he was a pilot for Continental Oil Co. and later flew for Mertz. He and Luella Bartgis were married in Ponca City on January 28, 1955. After retirement, he moved near Ada, where he ran cattle for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Odell and George Buttram.
J.K. is survived by his wifeLou 3 daughters Billie Osborn and her husband Bill of Lawton, Ava Goldman and her husband Danny of Ponca City and Pam Parker of Dallas, TX. 1 brotherSims Buttram and his wife Fern of Fort Worth, TX. 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Longwood Cemetery with Bro. Dwayne Johnson of the First Baptist Church of Asher, OK., officiating.
