Jack Dye

Dale J. Jack Dye, resident of Ponca City, passed away at Shawn Manor Nursing Home Friday, August 29, 2008, at the age of 84. Jack was born May 22, 1924 to Roscoe E. Kate E. Dye in Rago, KS at home with his Grandmother, Minnie Mae Dye as the midwife. Jack met Grace Seigh in Pennsylvania during World War II while he was in the Navy. They were married in Grace's parents home in Bolivar, PA and were married 63 years in March of 2008. Grace preceded Jack in death July 20, 2008. Grace and Jack had a son, Jim, and a daughter, Paula. Jack loved horses, horse racing and training. He trained quarter and thoroughbred horses throughout his life and was very accomplished at this feat. As a young man, he was a jockey and also rode Roman style in rodeos and shows. In later years, when he could no longer train horses, he found a new hobby, which was fishing. He hunted quail and pheasant with his son and brother as much as he possibly could when he was younger. He raised pointer bird dogs to train and sell. However, his greatest joy was his family. Jack worked on pipelines after Jim was born and he and Grace traveled a great deal with this profession. He was a milkman in Arkansas City, KS, when Paula was born. He moved his family to Ponca City, OK, where he was a painter. He and his family moved from Ponca City to Dodge City, KS, in 1958 and returned to Ponca City in 1962. Jack worked construction while in Dodge City. He worked for and retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission after moving back to Ponca City. He dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter and husband, Paula and E.W. Wright, of rural Marland, daughter-in-law and husband, Virginia and Deuane Wells of Arkansas City, KS; grandchildren, Steve A. Dye of California, Mike and Andrea Dye of Concord, N.C., Jessica and Jerry Root of Jenks, OK and Brooke and Darren Dyer of Ponca City; great-grandchildren, Boston, Caleb and Jackson Dye of Concord, N.C., Breanne, Landen, and Hannah Dyer of Ponca City, and Victoria Root of Jenks, OK. Jack is survived by two sisters, Fern and Vernon Lively of Blackwell, and Bonnie Bolts, of California and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brother-in-Iaws and spouses, Don and Sarah Seigh and George and Judy Seigh; sister-in-Iaws, Jean Minemyer and Trudy and Eugene Hall, all of Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Dye of Arkansas City, KS. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, on July 20, 2008; his son, Jim, his parents, Roscoe and Kate Dye, his brothers, H.A. Shortie Dye, Eugene Dye, Steve Dye and sisters, Tillie Hinkle and Clara Melber. Per Jack's request, there will be graveside services only, Tuesday, September 2,2008, at Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City, KS at 11 :00 a.m. Jack will be laid to rest by his wife, Grace and son, Jim. The family requests donations be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601. The family will be at the residence of Brooke and Darren Dyer, 2408 Cardinal, Ponca City, OK. There will be visitation at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, OK on Monday, September 1, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
